Volunteer Information

Online volunteer registration is now open. View the available Summer Games volunteer job descriptions – send any suggested edits to volunteers@sonc.net. You can also review general volunteer materials online.

You are a Class A Volunteer!

All GMT members are considered Class A Volunteers which means we need you to fill out the Volunteer Screening Form.  If you have not already filled out this form, please do so in order to complete the required criminal background check. You only have to do this form one time so if you did it a long time ago, you’re still all good!

We also ask that you take 15 minutes to complete Protective Behaviors training. This is a free online training on how to recognize abusive behaviors and ensure the safety of the athletes. This has to be done every three years and is required of all Class A volunteers. Please note that the format and web page to access this training has changed, and you will now need to create an account through the SO Learn Portal.

Also available through the SO Learn Portal is Concussion in Sports. We highly recommend all GMT members to take this free online concussion training to help ensure the safety of everyone during our event. While it does take about 45 minutes to complete, it is really great information. There should be no need to send a certificate as SONC now receives notification as soon as a training is completed.

The state of North Carolina requires a certain number of people to have training in crowd management at large events such as our Opening Ceremony and Victory Dance/Olympic Town.  This training also needs to be completed every three years and requires about 30 minutes.  We specifically ask security managers and the Opening Ceremony and Victory Dance/Olympic Town GMT to complete this training and send Julianna a copy of the certificate but it is a great training for any of our GMT.
