Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow on a snowboard attached to a rider’s feet using a special boot set onto a mounted binding.
Did you know?
- Approximately 20 athletes train and compete in this demanding sport each year.
- Zach Butler of Wake County was the first Special Olympics North Carolina athlete to compete in snowboarding at the international level at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in 2013.
- Special Olympics North Carolina held its first Winter Games in 1994. Snowboarding was added to the Special Olympics North Carolina Winter Games in 2007.
