Regional Competitions

Special Olympics athletes from the southeast U.S. (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi) have an opportunity to compete in several different sports, giving them additional competition opportunities, along with opportunities to meet athletes from other states and build lifelong friendships.

Special Olympics North America offers national invitational sports competition opportunities in a variety of sports including: bowling, golf, softball and tennis. Special Olympics North Carolina athletes are selected for these opportunities to compete along with athletes from the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Winter Games – Alpine
Skiing and Snowboarding

Boone and Blowing Rock
February 8-10, 2026

This event features competition in Alpine skiing and snowboarding. Special Olympics athletes from several states across the southeast U.S. receive instruction from professional ski and snowboard instructors at French Swiss Ski College. They then compete against their peers in downhill ski and snowboard courses. Learn more here!

This event features competition in figure skating and speed skating. Special Olympics athletes from several states across the southeast U.S. compete in Alabama.

Invitational

Greensboro
April 25, 2026

This event features competition in swimming. Special Olympics athletes from several states across the southeast U.S. compete in a one-day event at Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Regional Equestrian Invitational

Mill Spring
September 18-20, 2026

Special Olympics athletes compete in showmanship, dressage, western riding, gymkhana races, equitation and working trails each fall at the Regional Equestrian Invitational. Learn more!
