Nicole Boone of Rich Square, North Carolina, has been named the local program co-coordinator for Special Olympics Northampton County effective immediately, according to Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne.
Boone is employed as a student support specialist with Communities In Schools of North Carolina (CISNC). With 16 years of experience working in the field of support services, Boone has served as a qualified mental health professional, family and youth services specialist and health access patient navigator and director. She has provided support services in the areas of mental, behavioral and developmental health to youth and adults.
As local program co-coordinator, Boone will assist Janett Walker, who has been serving as coordinator for Northampton County, in the implementation of Special Olympics activities within Northampton County by leading a volunteer committee that will provide sports training and competition opportunities along with health and wellness initiatives for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This involves recruiting, training and managing volunteers, increasing athlete participation and raising funds in support of the program.
