Brenna Herbst of Mooresville, North Carolina, has been named the local program co-coordinator for Special Olympics Lake Norman effective immediately, according to Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne.
Herbst is employed by Mooresville Parks & Recreation as the recreation assistant for therapeutic programs. In addition to her bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy from East Carolina University, Herbst has experience in therapeutic horseback riding and adaptive physical education. She also has prior volunteer experience with Special Olympics Pitt County and Special Olympics Lee County.
As local program co-coordinator, Herbst will assist Lynn Hegedus, who has been serving as co-coordinator for Lake Norman, in the implementation of Special Olympics activities by leading a volunteer committee that will provide sports training and competition opportunities along with health and wellness initiatives for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This involves recruiting, training and managing volunteers, increasing athlete participation and raising funds in support of the program.
