Thank you so much for your continued support and fundraising activities for Special Olympics North Carolina through the Law Enforcement Torch Run. As of today, our efforts have resulted in over $1,108,000 being raised and while that is a major accomplishment, we are still short of our 2015 goal of $1.3 million for Special Olympics North Carolina. With a month to go in the year, I encourage you to do all you can to collect donations for Special Olympics. If you still have 2015 t-shirts or hats, the holiday season is a great time to ask for donations for them.
We’ve had a great year with several of our major special events. Over the Edge in Raleigh resulted in over $140,000. We raised $24,318 during the Red Robin Restaurant Tip-A-Cop promotion. The Officers and Athlete’s had a blast serving as waiters for donations. It was a huge success and everyone enjoyed the interaction with Law Enforcement and Special Olympics Athletes. The Truck Convoy had a successful year as well with $42,540 raised and 169 trucks participating! Much thanks goes to Con-way Freight for a $15,000 sponsorship!
In early October, nine North Carolina Torch Run representatives attended the 2015 LETR International Conference held in the Bahamas. Those who attended came back energized and ready to share new ideas around the state. We will be sharing the ideas at our 2016 Kick off Conference in January.
And speaking of the kickoff conference, we have some exciting news about that meeting. The conference will be held in Kernersville January 28-29. We have an exciting two days planned. We are using a football theme of “Getting in the Game”. We will be participating in a unified flag football game with Special Olympics athletes. Our guest speaker is a retired NFL player, who was featured in a movie. We also will have an exhibitors area set up so you can talk with seasoned Torch Run officers about different fundraising events that you might be able to conduct in your community. The conference will begin with a reception on Thursday night (Jan 28) 8-11 pm with a live band. Please look for an invitation to be mailed in early December.
The NC LETR has always been a leader when it comes to fundraising and public awareness activities. We have been working hard on mentoring other agencies and will do whatever it takes to assist any department wanting to get involved with the Torch Run. We want to invite each of you to get involved as a mentor if you are willing to help other agencies. Our NC Torch Run Council is as strong as it ever has been and we are willing to go the extra mile for the smiles from Special Olympics athletes that we see when we help!
Thank you for all your hard work. We are truly changing the lives of others while changing our own. We look forward to seeing you at the 2016 Kickoff conference.
With best regards,
Claudia Morgan & Keith Jones
