Haley Salmons of New Bern has been named the local program coordinator for Special Olympics Pamlico County effective immediately, according to SONC President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne.
In this volunteer position, Salmons will assist in the implementation of Special Olympics activities within Pamlico County by leading a committee that will provide sports training, competition opportunities and health and wellness initiatives for children and adults who have intellectual disabilities. She will assist in recruiting, training and managing local volunteers and work to increase athlete participation as well as raise funds in support of the local program.
Salmons works part time as a mentor with Easterseals UCP and is working toward her bachelor’s degree. She has volunteered with the local program for the past seven years and plans to implement more activities within the program.
