Welcome to Special Olympics Pasquotank/Camden!
Pasquotank and Camden counties have joined up to offer Special Olympics locally to the children and adults with intellectual disabilities in both communities.
Based out of Elizabeth City/Pasquotank County Parks & Recreation, Special Olympics operates year-round in each season and offers athletes the chance to participate in numerous sports as well as athlete leadership opportunities. The local program offers local competition opportunities in athletics, bowling, basketball, and bocce. Athletes that participate in any of the above sports are given the opportunity to compete at area and state level events, as well as other league and scrimmage competitions with neighboring counties.
Athletes also serve as Global Messengers, public speakers, that raise awareness and support for the local program, and athletes also have the opportunity to sit on the local committee.
Coaches are provided with the necessary orientation and training they need to become effective and knowledgeable as a Special Olympics trainer in the sport of their choice.
For our athletes, coaches, and volunteers, Special Olympics is a year round event that gives children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy at all levels and at no cost.
The program is constantly looking at adding new sports to give athletes many choices and rewarding opportunities to grow physically, socially, and improve their overall quality of life.
We are in need of coaches for multiple sports and dedicated committee members to help the program grow. Please contact Norris Raby for more information on how you can get involved!
