Jackson County

Welcome to Special Olympics Jackson County!

Sports Offered


Athletics (Track & Field) 

(March-June) Program offers traditional and modified track and field training for Special Olympics athletes ages 8 and older. Athletics gives athletes the opportunity to travel to local games, away meets and possibly the state-level Special Olympics NC Summer Games (a weekend long event).

Basketball 

(August-November) Program offers basketball training for Special Olympics athletes ages 8 and older. Individual Skills and Team Play are offered. Individuals and teams travel to away games and possibly to the Special Olympics NC Fall Tournament.

Bowling

(February-May) Competitive Bowling League for Special Olympics Athletes ages 8 and older. Athletes may travel out of town to tournaments and possibly to the Special Olympics NC Summer Games.

Golf 

(August-November) A competitive golf program is offered for Special Olympics athletes ages 8 and older. Jackson County offers Individual Skills Training as well as Alternate Shot Competition. Athletes may travel out of town to tournaments and possibly to the Special Olympics NC Fall Tournament.

Soccer 

(August-November) Competitive soccer program for Special Olympics athletes ages 8 and older. Individuals Skills Competition and team play is offered. Individuals and teams may travel out of town to tournaments and possibly to the Special Olympics NC Fall Tournament.

Softball 

Program offers softball training for Special Olympics athletes ages 8 and older. Individual Skills Competition is offered and athletes might be selected for the Special Olympics NC Summer Games.

Global Messengers

Global Messengers are Special Olympics athletes who have been trained in public speaking to serve as ambassadors for the organization.  They can recruit potential athletes, volunteers and sponsors through public presentations. To schedule a Global Messenger appearance, please contact the local coordinator.
