Greetings Fellow Law Enforcement Officers,
It is July and we are more than half way through our fundraising year. Where has the year gone?! The 2016 NC Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign has raised $750,000 to date. We are ahead of last year’s efforts but there is still much work to be done to reach our $1.3 million goal for Special Olympics North Carolina.
The increase in fundraising to date is a result of several successes so far this year. We raised over $113,000 through 16 polar plunges this past winter and we have one to go this fall in Jacksonville. So far we have raised $17,000 more in funds through polar plunges than we did in 2015. Our donations for t-shirts and hats are also up this year. Please continue to take donations for the hats and shirts at your local events and in your department. The Plane Pull was a big success and raised over $110,000 in April at the RDU International Airport.
Thank you to everyone who participated in or helped support the Final Leg in Raleigh for the Opening Ceremonies of SONC Summer Games. The weather was HOT but the Final Leg was a success! This was the third year doing the Circle of Honor and it gets better each year! We look forward to having more involvement in the Summer Games Final Leg in 2017. We would also like to thank the officers who presented awards during Summer Games. The athletes were so honored to have uniformed officers present them their medals and ribbons.
We are sending 23 officers to the International Conference in Arizona in September. The officers along with their agencies each raised over $20,000 for the opportunity to attend this year’s international conference. While at the conference they will attend sessions and network with officers from around the world to learn new ideas about successful Torch Run fundraisers.
As fall approaches, please mark your calendar for some important fundraising events that will be held. Over the Edge is September 30 and October 01 in Raleigh. Every rappeller you register is credited to your fundraising efforts. On October 22, the annual Truck Convoy will be held in Charlotte. October 22 is also the date of the annual Red Robin Restaurant Tip A Cop campaign at locations throughout the state. You can help with any of these events by contacting Leslie Moyar at Lmoyar@sonc.net.
We continue in our efforts to recruit and mentor new law enforcement agencies by inviting them into the NC Torch Run family. Please help us by referring new agencies near you that are not active in the Torch Run fundraising campaign efforts. If you know of agencies that are no longer active, let us know so we can invite them back!
Thank you for all the support you give to make North Carolina’s Law Enforcement Torch Run efforts among the best in the world!
With kindest regards,
Claudia Morgan and Keith Jones
