FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Plunge in Place and 2021 Plunge Season

Are Polar Plunge® events in still happening due to COVID-19?

This year, Polar Plunge season is going to look a little different. While we can’t bring everyone together for in-person plunges in early 2021, we still want you to take the plunge – in your own way. Plunge from the comfort of your own home, however you’d like, while raising money for nearly 40,000 athletes of Special Olympics who need you now more than ever.

Register here.

Can we still plunge this season?

We want you to find your freeze! Whether that means chilling poolside for an icy dip or simply dumping a chilly bottle of water over your head, this one is for you. Take photos and videos plunging and post them to social media using the hashtag #findyourfreeze or send them to plunge@sonc.net. Take your Plunge before our virtual ceremony on Saturday, February 27, for your chance to be featured in the celebration or our social media throughout Plunge season.

Please remember to follow CDC social distancing recommendations and state/local guidelines as well as other safety precautions while creating your own plunge at home plunge experience. Special Olympics North Carolina staff will be reevaluating in-person plunge events for early summer or fall 2021.

When should I Plunge in Place?

Plungers are encouraged to host their personal plunges whenever works best for you. While we will feature the Torch Run February 14-20 and host the official Plunge Week February 21-26, you can take your Plunge whenever you want! Please be sure to post your plunge by February 26 to qualify for the contests! To participate in the plunge, a minimum of $50 is required for fundraising. To qualify for the plunge contests, a minimum of $100 is required.

This support article will walk you through how to purchase a registration and claim your fundraising page. Please follow these directions when signing up for the Plunge on our Classy fundraising page.

How do I edit my personal fundraising page?

After you create a fundraising page, you can edit its details and personalize the content. Learn how to edit your personal fundraising page. Learn more here!

How do I withdraw from the event?

This event is 100% virtual and can be done at home, so no need to let us know you no longer wish to participate. If you fundraised the minimum $50 contribution to Special Olympics North Carolina, we appreciate the donation, as do the Special Olympics athletes who will benefit from the funds raised from all Polar Plunges. Because it is a charitable contribution, it is non-refundable even if you are unable to participate. You will receive your incentives for any fundraising levels met in early March.
