The 2020 Plane Pull has been cancelled.
In response to the latest upward trend in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations being reported in the Triangle and the rest of the state by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Special Olympics North Carolina has decided not to hold the 2020 Plane Pull fundraiser. We feel it is in the best interest and safety of our Plane Pull participants and volunteers as well as the SONC staff not to move forward with this event on October 17 at RDU International Airport. While we were really looking forward to seeing everyone and appreciate all the involvement, supporter’s safety and health are a top priority. This decision does not come lightly. It’s important that we make sure we are doing our part to help slow the spread of the virus.
The Plane Pull is one of SONC’s signature fundraising special events involving up to 400 participants who raise over $100,000 annually for SONC. We want to thank our presenting sponsor Credit Suisse along with our long-time partners RDU International Airport, UPS, and American Airlines for the time and attention given to planning the Plane Pull, which was originally scheduled for April 2020 but postponed due to the outbreak of the pandemic. We will look forward to a time in 2021 when we might have a safer opportunity to bring everyone together for the event.
What’s a Plane Pull?
The Plane Pull® is a unique team building activity for groups. It requires participants to come together as a team to achieve a very daunting task — pull an airplane 25 feet! Five-person teams will compete to see who can pull a 30,000-pound plane the fastest! Participants must be at least 14 years old to compete. Each five-person team must raise a minimum of $800 total by the event date.
Please note that in the case of event cancellation due to inclement weather or other reasons, no refund will be provided.
