Find a Special Olympics North Carolina Polar Plunge® fundraiser in your county

January 6, 2023 | Categories: News Releases

Event: 2023 Polar Plunges to benefit Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC)

Description: Polar Plunges will take place throughout the state of North Carolina to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes competing and training with SONC. Special Olympics athletes are adults and children with intellectual disabilities who demonstrate bravery through the transformative power of sports. Registration is now open at www.polarplungenc.com.

A Polar Plunge is a unique fundraising opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support SONC by jumping or running into a cold body of water in the middle of winter. Join thousands of people who will make a splash for Special Olympics by participating in an in-person Polar Plunge. Registrants can also participate in the virtual option and plunge from anywhere through April 1. Grab your favorite costume and invite your church group, civic group, fraternity, sorority, school or business to take the plunge with you!

Too chicken to plunge? Donate to an individual fundraiser or team in support of SONC. All funds raised will directly benefit SONC. Fundraising incentives will be mailed to participants, dependent on the amount of funds raised.

About Special Olympics North Carolina
Since 1968, the organization has used the transformative power of sports to improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Nearly 40,000 athletes in North Carolina inspire thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members and event organizers involved in Special Olympics statewide. SONC offers year-round training and competition in 20 Olympic-type sports on local and state levels as well as health and wellness initiatives to improve the health status and increase access to community health resources for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Youth become agents of change through Unified Champion Schools, an education and sports-based program created by Special Olympics to build an inclusive environment among youth with and without intellectual disabilities as well as empower them to become youth leaders and create change in their community.
