2023 Special Olympics NC Virtual Coach Training: Basketball, Swimming, Volleyball

Special Olympics NC will be offering virtual coach trainings for coaches to gain a deeper understanding of a sport and/or how to relate their coaching to Special Olympic athletes. Topics covered normally include: an introduction and overview of Special Olympics, coaching resources, sport fundamentals, events and divisioning, pre- and post-season training, proper uniform and equipment, safety, rules, and hands-on training. A sports specific training school is a required part of coach certification and re-certification. Please visit the SONC Coach and Sport Resources page to view the requirements and online trainings. We recommend completing requirements for a Sport Assistant before attending a sport-specific training school.

Our coach trainings via Zoom will include a more extensive practicum. Coaches going through these training should have the proper equipment to practice with as well as adequate space. Our clinicians will demonstrate via zoom with at least one athlete to demonstrate the skills, and we encourage coaches to recruit some of the players to take part in the practicum!
