2022 Equestrian Coaches Training – Elizabeth City

July 1, 2022 |

Special Olympics NC will be offering virtual coaches training for coaches to gain a deeper understanding of a sport and/or how to relate their coaching to Special Olympic athletes. Topics covered normally include: an introduction and overview of Special Olympics, coaching resources, sport fundamentals, events and divisioning, pre- and post-season training, proper uniform and equipment, safety, rules, and hands-on training. A sports specific training school is a required part of coach certification and re-certification. To be re-certified in a sport (required every three years), a coach can attend a training school or take an online test. Please visit the SONC Coach and Sport Resources page to view the basic requirements and online trainings. We recommend completing requirements for a Sport Assistant before attending a sport specific training school.

For your experience at an equestrian training school, please bring a pad, pencil/pen, and wear clothing appropriate for working around horses. If you would like to be credentialed as a “coach instructor,” you must participate in the riding portion of the training. Please bring or wear jeans and heeled boots. All attendees will be given coaching materials.  Every coach will be participating in the training, so be prepared to be active during your session!

Schedule
8:30 a.m. Coach check-in (will start the training once all coaches have checked-in)
8:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Classroom portion of training (sport rules, coaching practices, etc.)
11:45 a.m. – 12: 30 p.m. Lunch provided for all registered trainees.
12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. Practical work with horses and athletes

Register for this coaches training by Tuesday, August 2.
