A Sports Specific Training School provides a great opportunity for coaches to gain a deeper understanding of a sport and/or how to relate their coaching to Special Olympic athletes. Topics covered normally include: an introduction and overview of Special Olympics, coaching resources, sport fundamentals, events and divisioning, pre- and post-season training, proper uniform and equipment, safety, rules, and hands-on training. A sports specific training school is a required part of coach certification and re-certification. To be re-certified in a sport (required every three years), a coach can attend a training school or take an online test.
Training Schools will now feature multiple trainings in one day, and coaches may register for both a morning session and an afternoon session in order to receive two certifications and/or re-certification in a sport. For other requirements on the coach certification process, visit our Coaches Education page.
For more information on becoming re-certified, contact Andrea Stamm (email@example.com).
