Dear Fellow NC Law Enforcement Torch Run Officers:
Thank you so much for your continued support and fundraising activities for the NC Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. We are continuing to see more officers and agencies join the NC Law Enforcement Torch Run family and are very excited about the good work taking place around the state.
With over $724,000 raised so far during the 2015 campaign, we are still short of our $1.2 million goal for Special Olympics North Carolina. We have many events going on before the end of the year to help us reach our goal and we encourage you to do all you can to help in our efforts. Several events to highlight include:
• The Truck Convoy in Charlotte on September 19th — there is still plenty of room for more trucks to participate. Registration is only $100 per truck.
• Over the Edge in Raleigh and Charlotte (30-story rappel from the Wells Fargo Capitol Center in downtown Raleigh October 2-3 and 18-story rappel from the Hyatt House Charlotte Center City in Uptown Charlotte on Nov. 14.) . Many law enforcement agencies are participating and we encourage more to join us. For those interested, please contact Leslie Moyar in Raleigh or Susan Doggett in Charlotte for more information. Each agency/department that recruits participants receives credit for funds raised, even if they are not law enforcement personnel.
• Red Robin Restaurant Tip-A-Cop will be held Oct. 24th at participating restaurants throughout the state. Our North Carolina goal is $25,000.00. We look forward to this event not only to raise money but also awareness about Special Olympics. If you can volunteer or assist with any of these events, please contact us.
• Lastly, please do your best to collect donations for any t-shirts or hats that you have. Since the shirts are dated 2015, they have no value to us in 2016 so please use the final months of the year to turn them into cash for Special Olympics!
Mark your calendar for the 2016 North Carolina Torch Run Kickoff Conference January 28-29 in Kernersville. We will be holding only one kickoff conference in 2016 so please plan to be with us. Hotel arrangements and other info will be sent out soon. We are currently working hard to make this conference the best one yet!
And speaking of 2016, on August 28 in Durham, many of us that are polar plunge organizers participated in the first planning meeting ever held by SONC for polar plunges so we can get our plunge events planned for the upcoming polar plunge season. We have publicity opportunities available to help with plunger participant recruitment but we need to set dates and locations by Nov. 1 to take advantage of more advanced publicity and use of online fundraising. Give Leslie Moyar a call if you are a polar plunge organizer and could not attend the meeting.
In early October, we are honored that nine NC Torch Run representatives from around the state will attend the 2015 International LETR Conference in the Bahamas. Those who will attend will be come home energized and ready to share great ideas with all of us during our own 2016 kickoff conference in January.
The North Carolina LETR has always been a leader in the world when it comes to fundraising and public awareness activities. As the State Directors, we see the potential for even more growth in our state and will do whatever it takes to assist any agency/department to help us to reach our 2015 $1.2 million goal. If you have any questions or would like our assistance, please contact either of us.
With best regards,
