Greetings Fellow Law Enforcement officers,
On behalf of the NC Law Enforcement Torch Run Council, we would like to personally thank each of you for becoming involved in the 2016 Torch Run campaign to help raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics North Carolina. We enter the New Year with great momentum from 2016 when our efforts resulted in more than $1.3 million raised for Special Olympics in our state!
Our success was a direct result of hard working, dedicated officers just like you who organized fundraising events and collected donations from people and companies to help us reach our goal. We not only raised funds but awareness for more than 40,000 Special Olympics athletes in the state. We are so grateful to each one of you for assisting in our Torch Run movement.
Through mentoring efforts in 2016, several new agencies became involved in the Torch Run and we reactivated some that we hadn’t heard from in a while. In 2017, we will continue to recruit new agencies for increased participation. We currently have 95 agencies that are participating out of 594 agencies. Let us all get involved in recruiting these agencies. Please contact us if you know of any agencies not involved so that we can reach out to them. Our Torch Run Council will help educate agencies needing guidance or assistance in any way possible. Our success will not be the result of any single person but rather from the work of all of us doing our best to raise funds and awareness! We need law enforcement from throughout the state to come together to help us succeed.
We host many events throughout the year including the Plane Pull at RDU International Airport, the Truck Convoy in Charlotte, Over the Edge in Raleigh, and Tip a Cop with Red Robin throughout the state. This year we are adding a Regional Polar Plunge to be held in Greensboro at “Wet-n-Wild”. Also through the support and donations of Publix we are growing. We encourage you to get involved with these stores when they come to your area. We ask that you consider participating in or supporting these events. They are a lot of fun and through them we are able to raise significant funds.
As we enter the 2017 Torch Run year, let us all continue our commitment to being the best we can be for all the Special Olympics athletes in North Carolina. We ask for your leadership and ideas to help the 2017 NC Torch Run campaign raise $1.3 million. Let us all work together as One, to have our best year yet.
With best regards,
Claudia Morgan and Keith Jones
