Congratulations to the Gaston Volcanos and Shooters soccer teams for their participation and hard work in he 2015 Belmont Abbey scrimmages held on October 24th! What a great time they had, and a huge “thank you” to the players at Belmont Abbey for making their day special!
Special Olympics Gaston County would like to congratulate coach Kelly and her husband, David, and their families, on their newest additions…TWINS! We did not get a chance to hold a baby shower for coach Kelly in advance, so if anyone would like to donate anything for coach Kelly and her family, we are sure it would be appreciated. The twin boys will remain in Charlotte for a while until they can return home, so gifts of any kind would be greatly appreciated. Please email Ashley Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to get something to coach Kelly or Betsy States at email@example.com to get someting to coach Kelly to say “congratulations.”
New opportunity available! Special Olympics NC is offering an opportunity for those interested in unified bowling. Unified bowling is an opportunity for an athlete to bowl alongside a partner without a disability. Partners and athletes must be of similar skill level and work well together. Unified double pairs are needed to participate in the new Unified Bowling League being held for 6 weeks starting on November 5th at Carolina Lanes in Matthews. It will be Thursday nights from 6:15-8:00 and 2 unified double pairs will be put together to form 4-man teams to compete alongside other unified pairs and teams for fun and competition. This is a six-week opportunity. Special Olympics Gaston County would like to offer this to any athletes or unified partners who might be interested. Please contact Ashley Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org if interested by THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30th to get more information and get signed up. Registration for this opportunity will close this Friday, October 30th.

Sports We Offer:
We are looking for more qualified coaches. As Special Olympics NC changes the sports seasons and the focus shifts from state level competitions to a more local level competition model, we are in greater need for more certified and qualified coaches for our athletes. Please spread the word. Anyone interested in coaching should email Ashley Anderson at email@example.com for more information.
Current coaches – please log onto sonc.net and look under “coaches” to check your current certifications. There is a new requirement for coaches: a training course on concussions. Please log onto the website to take this training ASAP. It only takes about a half hour. There will also be information on current certifications/re-certifications at the next committee meeting.
