Special Olympics Durham County

Welcome to Special Olympics Durham County! More than 200 athletes train year-round in 11 different sports and compete in local-, regional- and state-level events. Special Olympics Durham County partners with the City of Durham Parks and Recreation for use of facilities and equipment. Our offices are in the Edison Johnson Center on Murray Avenue, a Parks and Recreation facility.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Come join us for our 2014 Durham County Spring Games.  This year’s event will be held on April 25 (raindate of April 28) at Durham Academy Uppder School (3601 Ridge Rd, Durham).

Opening Ceremonnies will begin at 10am.  For more information, please contact Kristen Randall.

 

Year-round Training Schedule:

Special Olympics Basketball (Dec. – Feb.) (ages 14+)

Program offers basketball training for Special Olympics Athletes ages 10 and older. Teams travel to away games and to the Special Olympic State Level Tournament (a weekend long event). Contact Kristen Randall at 560-1301 or Kristen.Randall@durhamnc.gov for more information.

Special Olympics Cheerleading (November – February) (ages 8+)

Competitive cheerleading program for Special Olympics Athletes ages 8 and older. The team will cheer at Special Olympics basketball games and support various Special Olympics events. Special Olympics Softball (March – May) (ages 14+)

Practices: Wednesdays, March 19 – May 28, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Valley Springs Park.

Program offers softball training for Special Olympics Athletes ages 10 and older. Team travels to away games and the Special Olympic State Games (a weekend long event). Contact Kristen Randall at 560-1301 or Kristen.Randall@durhamnc.gov for more information.

Special Olympics Aquatics (March – May) (ages 8+)

Practices: Wednesdays, March 12 – June 4, 2008 (7 p.m. – 8 p.m.) at Edison Johnson Aquatics Center

Competitive aquatics program for Special Olympics Athletes ages 8 and older – must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) independently. Athletes may compete at an Invitational Tournament and the Special Olympics State Games (a weekend long event). Special Olympics Track and Field (March – May) (ages 8+)

Practices: Sundays, March 30 – June 1, 2008 (5 p.m. – 6 p.m.) at Durham School of the Arts

Program offers track and field training for Special Olympics Athletes ages 10 and older. Athletes may travel to away meets and the Special Olympic State Games (a weekend long event). Contact Kristen Randall at 560-1301 or Kristen.Randall@durhamnc.gov for more information.

Special Olympics Soccer (Aug. – Oct.) (ages 10+)

Special Olympics Powerlifting (Aug. – June) (ages 18+)

In-School Special Olympics Training
