Special Olympics North Carolina names new co-coordinator for Randolph County

RALEIGH — Cindy Castle of Asheboro has been named the local program co-coordinator for Special Olympics Randolph County effective immediately, according to SONC President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne.

In this volunteer position, Castle will assist Shawn Columbia, who has been serving as a co-coordinator for Randolph County. She will assist in the implementation of Special Olympics activities within Randolph County by leading a committee that will provide sports training, competition opportunities, and health and wellness initiatives for children and adults who have intellectual disabilities.

She will also assist in recruiting, training and managing local volunteers and work to increase athlete participation as well as raise funds in support of the local program.

Employed through Randolph County Parks and Recreation, Castle has been involved in the Special Olympics Randolph County local program for several years. Additionally, she helps plan the annual Special Olympics Randolph County Splash & Dash fund-raiser.
