Global Messengers

Through the Global Messenger Program, athletes are trained to be spokespersons for Special Olympics.  Global Messengers are ambassadors for the organization and can recruit potential athletes, volunteers and sponsors through public presentations.

To schedule a Global Messenger appearance, please contact Rachel McQuiston or click on the link for the appropriate local program and contact the local program coordinator directly.

Partnership with UNC-Greensboro

Special Olympics North Carolina is proud to partner with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at UNC-Greensboro for an advanced Global Messenger training. During this partnership, previously trained Global Messengers work with UNC-G graduate students to improve their public speaking skills and confidence.  Read more about the program here.

Volunteer Opportunities

Special Olympics North Carolina needs help throughout the year in our office and warehouse.  We handle data entry for newly registered athletes and volunteers.  We maintain a large warehouse with almost everything that you need for a sports event and use various items throughout the year so we need volunteers to keep it all in order.  Please signup online or email volunteers@sonc.net with questions.  We welcome groups of 4 or 5 to join us as well.

We have programs throughout the state with year round programs.  These a few of the upcoming events.

Cabarrus County is looking for volunteers for their Bowling competition November 17th. Check out the shifts and sign up online.

Forsyth County is looking for help at their Bowling Tournament Friday mornings in November and December. Check out the available shifts online and sign up!

Mecklenburg County is actively looking for volunteers for their Winter Games in January and February. Check out the opportunities and sign up here.

Wake County is looking for volunteers for their Basketball Skills Competition this winter. Check out the shifts and sign up here.

Each program has a local committee that assists the Local Program Coordinator in all of their program needs. Click here to see what opportunities are available or visit your local program's page.

For information on coaching, volunteering at events, or getting involved with your local program, please fill out the Volunteer Interest Form! Volunteers will be added to our email database for information on future volunteer opportunities.
